Kids on the Block The importance of the Maybelle Clark Macdonald Fund challenge grant cannot be overstated. The opportunity that the Fund put before us - and the campaign we launched in response to it - have literally changed the culture of Kids on the Block in powerful ways. Our Board and many other supporters stepped up - in extremely significant ways - and we actually doubled our projections!
After receiving word of the grant from Dr. Westby, I met with Board members and together we developed our campaign strategy. We projected that, if we were to be wildly successful, we might bring in thirty $1,000 contributions within our three-month window of opportunity. What happened was well beyond what any of us thought possible. Our Board and many other supporters stepped up - in extremely significant ways - and we actually doubled our projections! We are proud to report that by December 31, 2004, we had received sixty-six $1,000 donations/pledges. With the first year of the campaign under our belts, we are committed to doing even better in the second year. There is now a palpable feeling among our Board and our many supporters that we are capable of taking on and meeting other significant challenges. There is a heightened sense of the importance of individual giving and an increased awareness that it means as many of us as possible digging into our pockets - and asking our friends to do so as well - for the long-term sustainability of Kids on the Block. Staff and Board together feel a strong confidence in our future and an excitement about it.
Kids on the Block

Our mission is to teach children how to stay safe and healthy using the power of puppetry.
We believe:
- all children have a right to be safe and healthy
- should have a trusted friend in whom they can confide in
- children need a safe environment where they can discuss their fears and concerns
